Reed diffuser on a shelf with home fragrance oils

How Long Does a Reed Diffuser Last? (And How to Make It Last Longer)

Reed diffusers are one of the easiest ways to keep your home smelling beautiful — no flames, no timers, just continuous fragrance. But one of the most common questions we get is: how long should it actually last?

How long does a reed diffuser typically last?

Most reed diffusers last between 2 to 4 months, depending on a few factors. A standard 100ml bottle in a medium-sized room will usually give you around 8–12 weeks of consistent scent.

What affects how long it lasts?

  • Room size — larger rooms diffuse the oil faster
  • Ventilation — rooms with good airflow (near windows or doors) will use the oil more quickly
  • Number of reeds — more reeds = stronger scent but shorter life
  • Temperature — warmer rooms speed up evaporation

How to make your reed diffuser last longer

  1. Start with fewer reeds — try 4–5 instead of the full bundle
  2. Flip the reeds weekly rather than daily — this refreshes the scent without burning through the oil too fast
  3. Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat sources
  4. Use a refill — when the oil runs out, you don't need to replace the whole diffuser. Our reed diffuser refills include fibre reeds and cost a fraction of a full diffuser

When should you replace the reeds?

If you've flipped the reeds and the scent has gone flat, the reeds are likely saturated and clogged. Replace them with fresh reeds — our refills come with fibre reeds included, which diffuse scent more effectively than standard ones.
